The James Andrews School of Golf

Anyone for Golf?

Part 3

All this took place indoors and it was probably an hour before we went outside onto the driving range to put what we’d learnt into practice and even then, Phil got us to hit the tee three times before “rewarding” us by letting us hit a ball.

“It’s not about hitting the ball, it’s about getting your swing right,” He explained. This went on until lunchtime, when Sarah Jane and I had to leave but had we stayed we could have gone round the course, as Paul did, with a second lesson of more of the same the following morning and another round in the afternoon.

Sarah-Jane says: “I’d been thinking about taking up golf for some time as its mentally stimulating, social and good exercise. One thing I learnt during the morning’s lesson is that there is a technique to golf, as much as there is to skiing, albeit a lot less dangerous!

“There’s a lot to remember before even attempting to hit a ball and there was a sense of achievement of actually having learnt something new. It’s definitely fuelled my desire to have more lessons”.
